Engaging faculty and students in research, innovation, and scholarship is the hallmark of a great research based institution. Through their participation in research and creative endeavors, we can make better thinkers, innovators, and problem solvers, cultivating a depth of understanding needed to make a positive difference in the world. It is essential to remain open to new ideas and opportunities when one is researching and developing their own interpretation.

We at Dental College HITEC-IMS are making considerable interdisciplinary efforts to foster a unique, dynamic culture of collaboration, curiosity and ambition that promotes and accelerates innovative and groundbreaking discovery. Our aim is to encourage the students, junior and senior faculty to form a superb research base distinguished by innovative basic and clinical science.

To achieve the mission, research cell will strive to achieve following standards of National Accreditation Framework

Rationale

Establishment of a robust research cell in dental college HITEC-IMS is madndatory to achieve institutional outcomes. The mission of the institute is to train the students to be competent health care workers and independent researchers (CaseFiles No. 9/(Misc) Den/IMS) aligned with the rationale of the research cell which will:

  • Develop a research culture through dynamic national and international collaborations and funding.
  • Motivate faculty and students to engage themselves in scholarly research activities.
  • Ensure quality of the research projects being conducted in the institute.
  • Facilitate the faculty and students in conducting research by providing state of art research facilities.
  • Guide the researchers to update themselves with the latest global research activities.

Organogram

Policies

Under-graduate Students:

  1. All undergraduate students starting from first year BDS till their third year will be sensitized to research activities by a series of very basic workshops. The purpose is to make them aware of basic fundamentals of research. The responsibility of conducting these workshops is with Student interest group (SIG) of RC in collaboration with department of Preventive and Dental Public health Dental College HITEC-IMS.
  2. In second year every student will be given a simple project which he has to complete and submit by end of third year to the research cell. After acceptance by the research cell project handling committee (PHC), it will become a library document and archived in HITEC-IMS Dental College library. Depositing the paper will count towards final internal assessment of the student (percentage to be decided).
  3. Monitory prize and certificate will be given to the students as a token of appreciation on publication of paper in peer reviewed recognized medical/dental journal.
  4. Project handling committee will designate supervisors for research activities of the student.
  5. Journal Club will be started from first year onwards. Journal clubs will be conducted once every months by the students. Tasks will be assigned to the students well in advance. Students will be divided into five groups of ten students in each group. Separate articles will be distributed in each group relevant to their taught syllabus. This will contribute to their final internal assessment in relevant subject (topic). Area of responsibility lies with each class coordinator.

Faculty Members:

To sensitize and facilitate faculty members towards research following steps are to be taken:

  1. Conduct of various workshops pertaining to research at institutional level be carried out on regular basis. Facilitators both from inside and outside Dental College HITEC-IMS will be invited. The responsibility for coordinating and programming lies with the research cell.
  2. Posting of all invitations for research, symposia, conferences, funding opportunities and seminars on college notice board for easy information of all faculty members.
  3. All the information regarding research activities, research projects, research workshops/conferences attended as well as those facilitated and publications of various departments will be compiled in form of a Research Directory and maintained with the Visitor Research center of the Research Cell where it can be accessed by interested persons.
  • The research cell will liaise with Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC) at NUMS and,
  • Process all the research proposals to HEC/other agencies through ORICs.
  • Coordinate with ORIC regarding funding/donor agencies.
  • Establish links with donors.
  • Establish links with Industries
  • Arrange/conduct seminars, conferences and training programs for faculty awareness and faculty industry interaction.
  • Identify regional expertise and requirements.
  • Arrange International trainings and workshops.
  • Arrange trainings and workshops at national level.
  • Arrange International Seminars/Symposium.
  • Arrange Seminars/Symposium at national level.
