Pharmacology

Introduction

Pharmacology & Therapeutics is one of the para-clinical disciplines that forms an ideal interface effectively bridging the basic and clinical specialties. The department aims to provide high quality holistic education to undergraduate medical and dental students keeping in pace with dynamic academic requirements. The fundamental principles of basic and clinical pharmacology are delivered to the future generation of medical professionals through formal lectures, class seminars, grouped tutorials and case-based discussions. The department houses a state-of-the-art pharmacodynamic laboratory, a museum and AV equipped tutorial rooms providing an excellent space for small group activities and departmental interactions. The laboratory has top notch facilities to affirm the factual aspects of theoretical knowledge of Pharmacology. The museum has well displayed samples of pharmaceuticals and pharmacognosy preparations and dosage forms.

 

Mission

To teach dental undergraduates the virtuosity of rational use of drugs by imparting quality para-clinical and clinical education in Pharmacology and Therapeutics.

Objectives

• To provide students with a solid grounding in the basic concepts and scientific underpinnings of the pharmacological sciences.
• To provide students with a comprehensive introduction to the fundamental Pharmacology and uses of the major classes of clinically important drugs currently used in medical practice.
• To provide students the list of major drugs and drug classes currently used in medical practice and describe their pharmacology including their indications, contraindications, clinical use, mechanisms of action, physiological effects, pharmacokinetic properties, major adverse effects and clinically significant drug interactions.
