Young Doctors Leadership Summit at Dental College HITEC IMS: Fostering Future Leaders

On January 25th, 2024, the vibrant halls of Dental College HITEC IMS pulsed with ambition as the Young Doctors Leadership Summit unfolded. This dynamic event, designed to ignite the leadership potential within young medical professionals, offered a captivating blend of learning and engagement. Inspirational “Doc Talks” shared valuable insights, while insightful panel discussions delved into the intricacies of career guidance and professional advancement. Skill development sessions unveiled ground-breaking advancements in dentistry, including 3D diagnosis and treatment planning of implants. To foster camaraderie and celebrate achievement, exciting competitions and a mesmerizing Qawali Night rounded out the program.

Students, house officers, post graduate residents and faculty members from different dental colleges of Pakistan attended the summit including delegates from Shifa College of Dentistry, Khyber College of Dentistry, Margalla College of Dentistry, Watim Dental College, HBS Dental College, Fauji Foundation Dental College, Bacha Khan Dental College, Akhtar Saeed Dental College and Islamabad Medical and Dental College who graced the event with their presence.

The highlights of invited speakers, Doc talks and panel discussion are as follows:

• Prof. Dr Irfan Shah Principal Dental College HITEC IMS gave a Doc talk on fostering leadership skills in young doctors.
• Prof. Dr Alamgir from Army Medical College delivered an insightful lecture on the crucial role of emotional intelligence in the medical profession, emphasizing its impact on overall health and well-being.
• Maria Memon, a prominent journalist from ARY News, shared her personal mental health journey, providing a unique perspective and highlighting the importance of mental well-being in the demanding field of healthcare.
• Guest speakers Assistant Prof Dr. Asfand Ali Khan and Assistant Prof Dr. Muhammad Khan Asif and Assistant Prof Dr. Hassam Anjum Mir enlightened participants on the advancements in modern dentistry, exploring cutting-edge technologies and practices that are shaping the future of the field.
• A dynamic star, studded panel discussion was moderated by Associate Professor Dr. Shahreen Zahid Khan. It included Prof. Dr. Amjad Mahmood (Orthodontist), Prof. Brig. Azad (Prosthodontist), Prof. Dr. Afeef Umer Zia (Orthodontist), Assist. Prof and HOD Operative Dentistry Dr. Asfand Ali Khan (endodontist), Assist. Prof and HOD Research and forensic odontology Dr. Muhammad Khan Asif (Forensic Odontologist), Assist. Prof and HOD Pedodontics Dr. Amna Riaz (Pedodontist), Assist. Prof Dr. Sohaib Siddique (Periodontist) and Dr. Sana Tariq (Orthodontist). It allowed for an interactive exchange of ideas and experiences.

The summit also hosted a workshop on “3D Diagnosis and Planning of Dental Implants” which was conducted by Professor Dr. Irfan Shah, Associate Professor Uzair Luqman, Assist Professor Dr. Usman Ul Haq, Dr. Muzaffar Hussein (DDS Cosmetic and Surgical Dentistry), Assistant Professor Dr. Maimoona, Dr. Fatima and other members of maxillofacial department of Dental College HITEC IMS.

The summit also organized competitions summarized as follows:

• A “Research Poster Competition” organized by Dr. Maryam and Assistant Professor. Maria. The competition provided a platform for young doctors to showcase their research endeavours.
• A “Table Clinic Competition” further enriched the event, offering a hands-on opportunity for participants to demonstrate clinical skills and share insights into various dental topics.

As the final echoes of the Qawali night faded, the impact of the Young Doctors Leadership Summit firmly etched in the hearts and minds of attendees. This momentous event, meticulously overseen by Prof. Dr. Irfan Shah (Principal), Dr. Shazana Rana, Dr. Shahreen Zahid, and Dr. Sana Tariq, along with the invaluable logistical support of Maj Azher Iqbal, offered a transformative experience for aspiring medical and dental leaders. The tireless efforts of the HIDAC Alumi led by President Dr. Shawaiz Khan, Vice President Dr. Aneeqa Tahir, and their dedicated team, ensured the summit’s success. The event hosts were Dr. Kanwal Malik and Dr. Abdul Nafay Qazi.
