World Oral Health Day Activities at Dental College HITEC-IMS

World Oral Health Day is an initiative of FDI World Dental Federation which aims to achieve optimal oral health for everyone. It was first declared in 2007 . This day is celebrated all over the world on the 20^th of March each year with the aim to create awareness regarding oral health. Dental college HITEC-IMS is at the forefront for creating awareness regarding oral health amongst the general population. In this regard frequent Free Dental camps were organised in the Dental college attracting not only the residents of Taxila but the adjacent cities and villages as well.

Oral health plays a vital role in the overall health and wellbeing of an individual. With the objective of helping people access oral health and hygiene facilities, DC HITEC-IMS organized a free dental check-up, treatment, and awareness camp from 20^th Feb to 11t^h March 2022.

This is a humanitarian initiative by Dental College Hitec-ims for the social welfare of the community.

 

Dr Shahreen Zahid, Associate Professor, President Organising Committee World Oral Health Day organised numerous activities as part of oral health day celebration. The campaign was initiated by Dr Irfan Shah, Principal Dental College HITEC-IMS. The campaign started on the 9^th of March till 20^th of March 2022.

 

On the 9^th march Dr Shahreen conducted a lecture to Dental and Medical faculty regarding oral health awareness. Lectures are a useful tool to schoolteachers and students to integrate oral health into everyday life, aiming to help make nutritional food and drink choices for early learning.
This was followed by dental screening by the Community Dentistry department along with students from 3^rd and final year BDS for the HITUDE students and over 2500 students were checked and continued till 10^th of March.

 

On the 14^th of March a poster competition was organised for 2^nd, 3^rd and final year students with the theme of oral health awareness. The students actively participated and came up with interesting and creative ideas. The judges were Prof Dr Beenish, Dr Amna Riaz and Dr Faiqa.

 

On the 16^th of March, lectures were conducted at HITEC university by Dr Irfan shah on Oral Cancers and maxillofacial pathologies, their causes, symptoms and early diagnosis. Dr Shahreen presented about awareness regarding general dentistry importance of oral health, disease prevention and early treatment. This was followed by World Oral Health Day campaign walk organised by Prof. Dr Waheed and Dr Amir. All the faculty from Clinical and basic sciences along with Students from Dental and medical college took part in the walk. The walk started from the college main entrance to HITUDE monument. The aim of this campaign was to create oral health awareness among school, college and university students.

 

Dental College HITEC-IMS aims at continuing such activities in future as well. The observance spreads messages about good oral hygiene practices for adults and children and illustrates the importance of oral health in maintaining general health and well-being. The growing burden of oral disease demands action on every level: individual, family and community. Simple, targeted action has the power to curb the prevalence of oral diseases and make oral health a personal priority for all.
