The Community Dentistry Department at Dental College HITEC-IMS organized a free dental camp on 6th November 2024 at The Scholars Science School, Taxila for approximately 500-600 school children to promote oral health awareness and provide essential dental services. The camp included comprehensive dental examinations, where children were screened for common issues like cavities, gum disease, and alignment concerns. Children requiring further treatment were referred to HITEC Dental College’s hospital, where they could receive care at discounted rates.
The camp’s team comprised 2nd-year BDS students, house officers, and faculty members from the Community Dentistry Department, under the leadership of Dr. Maria Rabbani, Head of the department.
In addition to the check-ups, the camp featured hands-on health education sessions to teach children about proper oral hygiene. Using dental models, instructors demonstrated correct brushing and flossing techniques, encouraging children to practice these methods at home. This practical approach aimed to instill effective habits and raise awareness of preventive oral care from an early age.
The camp received positive feedback from school staff, and children, underscoring the need for more regular dental camps to sustain these health benefits within the community. The Community Dentistry Department looks forward to continuing its mission to enhance oral health access and education in the region.
