Dental Outreach Program

Oral health care is a vital component of a person’s overall health, a lack of awareness among the general population is seen. Affordability and access to oral health care are major problems which are pronounced in rural than in urban settings. In a country like Pakistan there is an increased need for affordable and accessible oral care services especially in rural setting.

With this goal in mind, the community dentistry department of HITEC-IMS Dental College designed a community outreach program in collaboration with Colgate on 24^th February 2023, with the aim of providing dental care to underserved communities in the area and to offer our students an opportunity to engage in community outreach activities. The organizing committee comprised of faculty members from the dental college, house Officers and a team of student of BDS 3^rd year.

During the dental camp, our team provided dental check-ups and oral hygiene education to patients. A total of 324 patients were examined. They were also given forms, detailing their oral health issues and pamphlets listing all free services being provided at HITEC Dental hospital, with address and relevant contact information of hospital. Our team also distributed toothbrushes, toothpaste, and basic medications to the community. Our students played a crucial role in the success of the camp. They assisted the dental professionals in providing dental services.

In conclusion, the community dental camp was a great success, providing much-needed dental care to underserved communities in a remote area. It also had a positive impact on the community’s awareness of oral health and hygiene. Our student gained valuable experience in community outreach, and we hope to continue organizing similar camps in the future.
