A dental camp was organized by community dentistry department of Dental College HITEC-IMS on 16th November 2023 to serve underserved population having financial hardships and poor oral health literacy.
This oral health program was a community service initiative of HITEC Dental College, with the primary objective of raising awareness about oral hygiene with an aim to serve underserved population. Due to the limited presence of dental professionals in these underserved areas, there is a crucial need for comprehensive homecare instructions. Without guidance from dental teams, both children and adults in rural settings often lack the necessary information and tools to enhance their oral health.
The event was organized by Community Dentistry department in Government Associate College for Women, Taxila. The team members included faculty from all clinical and basic sciences departments as well as house officers.
The camp started with a presentation on oral health by Dr. Maria Rabbani followed by free dental examinations to identify oral health issues and provision of Oral Hygiene Instructions. A total of 400 patients were examined, each receiving detailed reports outlining their oral health condition. Patients in need of treatment were provided referral to HITEC Dental hospital at discounted prices ensuring they had access to care they required.
In conclusion the camp was a huge success. With objective of improving access to oral healthcare for underserved and vulnerable community in mind, we are determined to continue organizing such camps in future.
